When and where you should buy your Solo Stove

There are a lot of places to buy a Solo Stove and Solo Stove accessories. The price will vary depending on when and where you decide to purchase your stove. We’ll discuss the different options and give our recommendations for purchasing your Solo Stove fire pit.

Online vs In-stores

The main two options for buying a Solo Stove are online and in stores. Let’s look at both.

Online

Like most things these days, Solo Stoves can be purchased online. The two most common places to buy a Solo Stove online are:

  • SoloStove.com – The manufacturer’s site will have the entire lineup with all sizes, colors, and accessories. The site also features a bunch of videos and blog posts that teach you how to get the most out of your fire pit.
  • Amazon.com – Solo Stove fire pits are available on Amazon. It’s a great place to see the different models and see tons of user reviews. Most models tend to be Prime eligible.

There are some other retailers that sell Solo Stoves, but Amazon and Solo Stove’s website are the two places we recommend.

In Store

Next we’ll look a the in-store options. A few national stores that sell Solo Stoves are:

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods
  • REI
  • Kohl’s
  • Ace Hardware
  • Tractor Supply Co.

The price range will be similar, but could vary a bit based on sales or time of the year.

The obvious benefit of buying from a store is that you won’t have to wait for the fire pit to be shipped. If you’re expecting to go to a store to compare sizes in person, keep in mind that most stores don’t have a display model. They may also not have all the different size Solo Stoves. We’ll talk more about the different models sizes later.

Do Solo Stoves go on sale?

Yes, Solo Stove fire pits do go on sale throughout the year. If you don’t mind waiting, you can save money by waiting for one of their sales. Sales occur pretty frequently, and you can create an account to get an email notification whenever there’s a sales event. Plus, there’s often a bonus (usually $10 off your purchase) just for signing up.

The best sales for Solo Stoves are around Black Friday, which is great time to buy since the weather is getting cooler!

Are Solo Stoves cheaper online or in stores?

It depends on who is offering sales, but we’ve seen that Solo Stoves prices aren’t significantly more or less than what you would find online. It’s definitely worth looking around anyway.

Comparing the Solo Stove models

There are three popular models in the Solo Stove lineup. They are (in order of size) the Ranger, Bonfire, and Yukon. Size is really the main difference. The smaller sizes are more portable, while the larger ones can keep more people warm. Since any of them can be moved relatively easily, we usually recommend one of the bigger models. For more information, see our Solo Stove size comparison.

Should you buy a used Solo Stove?

Another option is to purchase a used Solo Stove. This is not a bad idea, since these are quality products made out of 304 stainless steel. So they’ll perform just as well used as they do new. A few things to keep in mind if you’re looking for a used Solo Stove:

  • Version 1.0 or 2.0 – The current version of the Solo Stove is 2.0. It’s pretty similar to the original version, but the 2.0 comes with a removable ash tray, making it easier to clean.
  • Dings/dents – Minor dings or dents will most likely only affect the look of your Solo Stove and not the actual performance.
  • Look and patina – Over time, the stainless steel will start to look discolored, especially around the rim. This is expected and does should not impact the performance of the fire pit.

If you can find one, a used Solo Stove can be significantly cheaper.

Where to find a used Solo Stove

The two most common places to find a used Solo Stove are Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. Most people love their Solo Stove, so you may not see a ton right away. But if you’re patient, eventually one will pop up and you should be able to get a good deal. I found the Yukon pictured above for half the price of a new model, and it works perfectly!

Wrapping up

There’s no bad time to buy a Solo Stove. If you’re not in a hurry, wait for a sale. Otherwise, run to your closest Dick’s Sporting Goods. Or even easier, check out Amazon. They might seem a bit expensive, but remember that they’ll last a lifetime.
