Lehman’s fire pit aren’t flashy, they’re functional. And there aren’t a ton of options here, but that’s ok. The Lehman’s Backyard Fire Pit Grill is everything you need for years of memories. The height of the grill attachment can be easily adjusted to ensure you’re cooking at the right temperature.
The Lehman’s pit/grill is perfect for picnics and also works in emergencies where other heat sources aren’t available.
Lehman’s also produces a smokeless fire pit, which provides all the benefits of a warm fire without the smelly clothes. The smokeless pit has a 26″ inner diameter, so it can hold a lot of wood. That also means maximum heat output to keep everyone warm on those cold winter nights.

Burly
Burly makes a high-quality smokeless fire pit that most resembles the popular Solo Stove (which aren’t manufactured in the U.S.). One difference is, Burly has handles on either side, that almost make it look like a cauldron (which is pretty cool in our opinion).
There are two main collections: The Scout and the Gather. The Scout models are smaller and at around 43 lbs, can be transported. The Gather models are heavier (72 lbs) so work better as a yard/patio fixture as something to ‘gather’ around.
Burly offers a matte black finish or a stainless steel version of the different models. The matte back looks cool, but it’s paint, so it could eventually chip away and need touch-ups. We would rather go with the stainless steel, which will develop a nice looking patina over time.
Type of fire pit: Wood burning (smokeless)
Our favorite model: Scout (for portability) and Gather (for the backyard)

Evergreen Fire Pits
Evergreen is another great brand that produces heavy-duty, long lasting fire pits. Evergreen fire pits are available in a bunch of styles, but you’ll find most of the designs are similar in appearance.
The fire pits are handmade with thick steel that won’t rust out. So expect this to be a purchase you only need to make once in your life.
The steel will patina over time, which will give a brownish color and rustic appearance to the fire pits.
The biggest model is 48″, which can hold a ton of logs. Drop that fire pit in any yard or field, add some chairs and friends, and get ready for years of memories.
Type of fire pit: Wood burning
Where they’re made: Cave Spring, GA
Our favorite model: 30″ Hemisphere

Pyro
Pyro doesn’t make your typical fire pits, and why we like them. They have a few different styles, inclusing the Pyro Tower, Pyro Cage, and the Pyro Camp Fire Pit.
The Pyro Tower looks like a chiminea, but metal. Advertised as a ‘modern chiminea,’ the Pyro tower keeps you warm, while forcing the smoke away from you and your friends. It also doubles as a stove.
The Pyro Cage is essentially a collapsible burn barrel that can be used as a fire pit. The 48″ version has about 50% more volume than a 55 gallon drum. Plus the Pyro Cage has an available lid (sold separately) that limits the amount of embers from escaping the cage.
The Pyro Camp Fire Pit looks different than any fire pit we’ve ever seen. At first it looks more like an animal trap, but when you see it in action, the design makes sense. Meant to be portable, the Camp Fire Pit can only hold a few logs at a time, but it can still get plenty hot. It also doubles as a grill for making burgers, dogs, or whatever else you can think of.
Type of fire pit: Wood burning
Where they’re made: Mulberry, Kansas
Our favorite model: The Pyro Tower

Bonus Brand: City Bonfires
We added the City Bonfires to this list as a bonus. They’re not typical fire pits, but they’re fun and perfect for certain situations.
City Bonfires was started during the pandemic by two Dads from the Washington, D.C. area. They were looking for some cool new product ideas, and created a portable, reusable, mini ‘bonfire.’ It’s actually a 4″ by 2″ metal tin that burns wax.
Think of these as take anywhere instant ambiance. And since the wax is non-toxic, they’re perfect for roasting s’mores. As the name suggests, City Bonfires are great for folks who live in the city and don’t have a place to burn a traditional fire pit.
With a burn time of 3-5 hours, the City Bonfire can also be used as an emergency heat source.
Type of fire pit: Soy wax burning
Where they’re made: Maryland
Where to buy: Amazon
Update: We got enough questions about this fire pit, so we did a full review of the City Bonfires portable fire pit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few of the common questions related to American-made fire pits, and fire pits in general.
Aren’t Solo Stove fire pits made in America?
No, Solo Stove is headquartered in the Dallas, Texas area, but the products are manufactured in China and South Korea.
Which type of fire pit is better, gas or wood?
It depends on what you’re looking for. Gas fire pits are low maintenance and easy to use, while wood burning pits provide a more natural experience.
Wood burning pits are usually better for cooking. The downside of wood is that they require cleaning and can leave you smelling like smoke. To avoid the smokey smell, try a smokeless wood-burning fire pit. For a detailed comparison, check out our article on gas vs. wood fire pits.
How do smokeless fire pits work?
Each brand uses its own design, but every model we’ve seen centers around a double-wall design. Air is pulled through the space between the double-walls, becomes heated, and then gets forced out over the tops of the fire where it vaporizes any smoke. For much more detail, check out our article on how smokeless fire pits work.
What is patina, and does it harm the fire pit?
Patina is a thin layer of oxide that forms on the surface of metals. It’s often seen on antique furniture, and can give metal a rustic look. Patina is not harmful to fire pits and can actually help protect the metal from corrosion.
